Stream the episode with a Paramount+ subscription and read at your own risk!The latest Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode to hit the 2026 TV schedule features the most impressive feat I've seen in the franchise's modern era, especially after learning how much effort it took. That's right, while "Human Best Friend" was a goofy episode featuring the crew on shore leave, Rebecca Romijn told CinemaBlend that singing in Klingon was no vacation. (Image credit: Jan Thijs/Paramount+)I spoke with Rebecca Romijn about the latest episode, in which we saw Una sing the late Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse Of The Heart" entirely in Klingon. It wasn't dubbed or made up; Romijn actually learned the song in alien language, and as she explained, it was quite difficult: It honestly was the biggest challenge of the season for me. I did not know it was a challenge I ever wanted. In fact, at first, I was completely overwhelmed. But because Klingon is an actual language that probably at least 20 people in the entire world can speak fluently, including college professors, I worked with a dialect coach to make sure I could get all of that correct pronunciation, translation, all of it. I like to think this was Star Trek: Strange New Worlds apologizing for the Klingon boy band scene, but that's just my opinion. I do love, though I am not surprised, that the show ensured Romijn sang a translated version of the song accurately, especially since the setup for that scene likely took way longer than what we saw onscreen. Filming has wrapped on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, but even then, Rebecca Romijn said she'd like to commit that performance to memory. I confessed I'd love to see it become a party trick she performed at future Comic-Cons and fan appearances, and it seems like that's a possibility based on how she responded: If I can actually retain all of those words, it's my retirement plan for the deep future...I was pretty happy to see how it came out. On the heels of a scary episode that had Kirk questioning his role as a father, I'm thrilled Star Trek: Strange New Worlds had the sense to give us something as light as "Human Best Friend." It definitely felt like the premise was "What if Star Trek was The Hangover," but that's not to say it was a bad thing. Plus, it was another Ortegas-heavy episode, which fulfilled the promise of highlighting characters who will not be a part of Kirk's Enterprise. These are the types of episodes we'll appreciate should the spinoff that Strange New Worlds' showrunners are hoping for happen, as Erica, Una, and La'an will ultimately not be a part of that adventure. Hopefully, there will still be opportunities for them to appear as guest stars!I guess I should first hope that there are plans for Star Trek television shows to continue, as San Diego Comic-Con came and went without any new show announcements to speak of. It's looking like Paramount Skydance is waiting to announce what's on the way for the franchise, or putting all its efforts into making sure a new movie for the franchise can finally hit theaters. In the meantime, we still have more episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds to get through, with new episodes airing on Thursdays on Paramount+. After Season 4 wraps, we can assume Season 5 is coming in 2027, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see!
