I worked 40 hours in the lab while attending classes and tested whenever I could, which generally meant weekends. Other than a brief stint in manufacturing*, I’ve never worked more hours than when I was getting my PhD. *manufacturing is probably the only job I’ve had that is more sadistic than in an engineering graduate lab. Pays great but always takes its pound of flesh. I’m happily back in a research lab, working a normal work week.
