A woman who was allegedly caught on camera throwing a rubbish bag into the front yard of a Swieqi apartment block has been identified and fined within minutes, according to Deputy Mayor Jordan Galea Pace.Sharing an update following the viral video, Galea Pace praised the swift response by Police, saying the woman was quickly tracked down and issued with a fine.“In Swieqi, we’re taking out the trash,” he wrote.“Thanks to the swift action of our Police officers, within minutes the woman was identified, caught and fined.”Galea Pace said the incident shows what can be achieved when residents report wrongdoing and authorities respond immediately.“A safer Swieqi starts with every one of us. Residents who report, Police who act, and a community that refuses to accept this behaviour.”He went on to call for Swieqi to become an example for the rest of Malta, saying the locality’s determination to reclaim its streets and restore its sense of community should inspire others.“Respect our locality and you are more than welcome. If not… bye,” he concluded. The update comes after Galea Pace shared footage appearing to show a woman throwing a rubbish bag over the wall of an apartment block at around 6.30am before running away with a group of friends. At the time, he used the incident to renew calls for Prime Minister Robert Abela to visit Swieqi and hear residents’ concerns over anti-social behaviour and nuisance in the locality. What do you make of the swift police response?•
