The company behind Malta’s blue textile recycling bins has temporarily suspended its collection service, without giving a formal explanation for the decision.RefabLightBlue Partnership, which operates the textile recycling scheme, informed local councils of the suspension through notices placed directly on the bins.Several councils, including Kirkop and Siġġiewi, have since urged residents not to leave bags or loose textiles next to the containers, warning that doing so could be considered illegal dumping and may result in fines.For the time being, the blue bins will remain in place and will only be removed on a case-by-case basis, with no indication of when the service is expected to resume.The textile recycling scheme has previously faced criticism over its transparency, including questions about what happens to the collected materials. It has also struggled with widespread misuse, as bins were frequently contaminated with non-textile waste and often left overflowing.•
