A new animated trailer for Overwatch’s next hero only furthers my wishes for an anime based on the game franchise. But for now, the new character’s hype will have to suffice. The new short, “Tough Call,” introduces D.Mon as the game’s next and 53rd hero to launch in the game’s new season next week. The video features D.Mon, D.Va, and their MEKA Squad teammates Casino, King, and Overlord saving the South Korean city of Busan from invasion. In the video, D.Mon is seen in all her mech-suited glory for the first time. The big, red mech codenamed Beast features a sword in its right hand and a shield in its left hand, a big departure from D.Va’s mech that only has dual cannons. In the two and a half minute adventure, squad is tasked with defending the city and its civilians while also protecting an EMP device that’s sought out by Talon and its leader, Vendetta, the main overarching villain of this year’s storyline in the game. D.Mon makes the decision to protect innocents from Wrecking Ball (piloted by the cute, genetically enhanced, genius hamster Hammond) instead of the EMP device, which is eventually stolen by Talon and setting up the next conflict for the lore. Stay tuned for more in the coming weeks and months, I suppose. This is just the latest in several anime-style videos put out by Overwatch, and it truly makes me pine for a full-length animated series to really flesh out the game’s story. They are of a different style but no less quality than Blizzard’s CGI animated shorts of the past, but they both deliver the same feeling for its players: we want more of this. More about D.Mon is expected to be revealed ahead of her launch as part of season four in Overwatch, which begins on Aug. 11.0The post Overwatch’s newest hero D.Mon battles Wrecking Ball to save Busan in epic reveal trailer appeared first on Destructoid.
