Nintendo announced via its official corporate social media account that it is donating 50 million yen (~$316,745) to the Japanese Red Cross to support the Kumamoto earthquake relief. The company added on its official website that it is also offering free repairs of its products to users affected by the earthquake. Nintendo will accept most repairs of its affected products for free, regardless of their active warranty status, as long as it still has the spare parts required to fix them. People in Kumamoto can send the items to Nintendo service centers by including a note that mentions the tag “Reiwa 8th Year Kumamoto Earthquake” (「令和8年熊本地震」), along with either the user’s personal contact details or an online registration number. This is not the first time Nintendo has donated money and offered free repairs to earthquake survivors. The company had previously extended a similar courtesy to users affected by the Noto earthquake in early 2024. However, it has since completely run out of spare parts to repair the Wii U, the Famicom (NES) and Super Famicom (SNES) Nintendo Classics, and all 3DS/2DS models. That means the only consoles supported for this period are those from the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 families. The free repair offers for Nintendo products affected by the Kumamoto earthquake are valid for items that arrive at Nintendo service centers by February 1, 2027.
