As expected, Rockstar’s decision to put its extended GTA 6 look on a paid streaming platform isn’t going over so well. Reactions to the decision have been largely negative, with players believing it amounts to nothing more than corporate greed. In case you missed it, Rockstar Games decided to put its “extended look” at GTA 6 exclusively on Netflix, a paid subscription, which is set to air on Aug. 27 in the afternoon. Since it’s an exclusivity deal, it means that those without a Netflix subscription, or at the very least someone in their friend group or family who has one, will be left out of getting this new look at the most anticipated game in history. Making us sub to netflix to watch an advertizement is next level greed, scum and villainy— DEPRESSED YØYØ (@yoyotoonboy) August 6, 2026 “Making us sub to Netflix to watch an advertisement is next-level greed, scum and villainy,” said one user on X in response to Rockstar’s announcement. “Rockstar even making their trailers pay-to-watch is a crazy move,” said another. Others weren’t so keen on the decision either, with another user writing, “Not to sound conplainy, but why the f**k Netflix? I’m not getting a Netflix sub to watch a game trailer.” Of course, while there is some justification among these complaints, considering the fact that the company is locking down its preview behind a paid subscription. But as Rockstar itself said in the same announcement, it’s going to be on YouTube anyway: it’s only staying on Netflix for six hours before moving onto other platforms, chiefly Rockstar’s official YT account. This is likely a very quick cash grab on Rockstar’s part, since I’m willing to bet this laptop I’m writing on that they made high eight figures off this deal without actually having to do anything. Once they go global and start publishing everywhere, God knows how much more money they’ll make via monetization deals. It’s an unfortunate reality of modern media that this is happening at all, but I cannot blame Rockstar for doing it. A lot of money in this stuff. 0The post Folks are not happy about Rockstar’s decision to stream GTA 6 preview on Netflix: ‘Next-level greed, scum and villainy’ appeared first on Destructoid.
