What do you do when you can never seem to nail the tone of voice?

Wait 5 sec.

The luxury pen company I write social copy for has had a change in leadership, and now the new SM boss wants a copy *refresh*, and I just can never seem to nail the tone. They've repeatedly asked for more playful, more emotional, shorter, more clever, etc etc. The other copywriter and I have lost our minds trying to interpret and reinterpret their (almost non-existent) briefs to match what they're looking for. Mind you, we don't have direct contact with the SM boss. Everything gets communicated to us via the project manager and apparently, the SM boss brought on another copywriter she used to work with to do the IG copy for the holiday campaign. We're still doing the other socials, but I feel frustrated and annoyed and obviously like my job is kind of at risk. (But maybe that's just my ego?) Would love to hear if y'all have any exercises you use or ways to rethink angles when you're in this kind of situation! Thanks, fam xoxo submitted by /u/Wonderful-Ball7092 [link] [comments]
