Gianluigi Donnarumma is a Poundland James Trafford and Man City’s dynasty will end unless they fix these problems

Gianluigi Donnarumma is a problem for Manchester City, whose dominant dynasty could well be coming to an end.Concerns have been raised over Donnarumma and Man City‘s future despite winning 3-2 in the Champions League against RB Leipzig on Wednesday.Donnarumma has been labelled a ‘Poundland James Trafford’ after making a big error for Man City against RB Leipzig in the Champions LeagueAFPThe Italian goalkeeper was at fault for Leipzig’s first goal of the evening on Wednesday, standing way off his line.He was caught sleeping as right-back Ridle Baku fired a cross directly into an empty net with the City shotstopper missing.Thankfully for him, the Premier League giants went on to win the game, albeit after he conceded another goal. But ex-Arsenal winger Perry Groves thinks Donnarumma is starting to impact City’s success, with talkSPORT host Adrian Durham in agreement.Donnarumma is a ‘Poundland Trafford’ Groves said after the full-time whistle in Germany: “The big problem they have, Man City, is Donnarumma.“He’s nowhere near the goalkeeper that he was. And if you watch Ridle Baku’s goal and he sees that Donnarumma is off his line at the near post. And he rolls it inside him into the far side netting. “And Donnarumma could have actually let another one in where he lets a shot from Antonio Nusa go through his hands.“That would be a worry if I was Enzo Maresca.”Bringing up former City goalkeeper James Trafford, who they sold to Leeds this summer, Durham then added: “Do you know what? I call him a Poundland James Trafford, Donnarumma.“I know people think it’s disrespectful. He’s had a great career. He’s been brilliant, he’s a European champion. He’s won so much and fair play to him for that.Donnarumma was well off his line and expecting a cross when Baku caught him out and scored from a wide positionAnd Durham thinks Trafford is better than Donnarumma, despite the latter forcing the England international’s sale from Man City this summerGetty“But he’s got his angles all wrong for one of the Leipzig goals and the ball is fired and he’s expecting a cross. “But at this level, who knows what’s going to happen? You can’t just expect it to be a cross. And then if it’s a shot that beats you at your near post, you look like a mug.”Is Man City’s dynasty over? Man City struggled to their victory over Leipzig in the Champions League in the end, coming away 3-2 winners. The Bundesliga outfit had more shots than them, hit the woodwork and had a goal disallowed as they piled pressure on.That somewhat fortunate result followed a loss to Brighton in the league, a win via a penalty shootout over the same opposition in the Carabao Cup and another league defeat to Aston Villa. And City’s form in October through to Wednesday has talkSPORT’s Micky Gray and Groves concerned for their future under Maresca after such a dominant period under Pep Guardiola.Man City have dominated games in the Premier League and Europe in recent years, but there are concerns that that is now fadingGettyGray explained: “Whether it’s Premier League or Champions League. I don’t think they’ve got the right balance yet. “He is trying to bring a little bit of pace into it. Bringing [Abdukodir] Khusanov into that back line… he makes the odd mistake as well.“I think the full-back positions, Nico O’Reilly wants to be a left winger or a left midfielder. Donnarumma, he made an absolute world class save. I think it was 1-0 at the time and he’s tipped across the top corner. It was absolutely brilliant.“They’re great going forward, they’re always going to create chances. “But I think defensively, they’re still vulnerable for me. They got a little bit fortunate tonight.“I think overall they probably deserved to win the game but Leipzig asked them a lot of questions.”City’s struggles to control games and strike fear into opponents may signal the end of their dynastyAFPMeanwhile, Groves then went on to question: “I think that Man City are coming to the end of their dynasty.“Because you could tell in the second half especially that Martin Demichelis, the RB Leipzig manager, he sent RB Leipzig out on the front foot.“He made sure that they played another ten, 15 yards further up the field. And that’s why Baku got his goal, because he comes from right back.“So, you can tell that teams, when they’re playing against Man City, they get a feeling that they’re always in the game. They’ve always got a chance, because Man City now don’t put teams to bed. “And they’ve had one clean sheet in the last nine matches. “So, you know that if you’re patient, but you’re brave, then you can get at them.”
