I built a football app as a side hustle. 21 downloads so far, here's where I'm at

Wait 5 sec.

I got sick of football scores being spoiled before I could watch the highlights. They're everywhere: YouTube titles, thumbnails, notifications. So over the last few months I built an app to fix it, as a side project. It's called After the Whistle. It shows official highlights with the score hidden until you've watched, plus fixtures, results and tables. No account needed. It's my first app, so here's the honest picture: Downloads: 21 so far, with no marketing at all Earnings: £0 so far How it makes money: a small banner ad, or a one-off season pass to remove ads (Still waiting to activate this) Biggest surprise: building it was the easy bit. Getting anyone to find it is much harder!! The App Store doesn't do much for you. You can make something you're proud of and hardly anyone will see it unless you go out and show them, which is what I'm starting now. For anyone who's launched an app or small product, what got you your first 1,000 users? And if you've made money from a free app, was it ads or paid upgrades that worked? Happy to share how I built it or answer any questions, and I’ll attach the link in the comments if anyone wanted to try it, let me know🤞 submitted by /u/Legal_Ad_7147 [link] [comments]
