Today, we are launching Vivaldi 8.3 on Android, iOS and Desktop at the same time. The star of the show is the redesigned Ad and Tracker Blocker. On Android users get smarter Tab Stacks, improved media controls and a quick way to jump to a site’s app. On iOS, pages load noticeably faster with the blocker on, your battery gets a break, and you choose where new tabs open. The Ad and Tracker Blocker, redesignedYour phone goes everywhere with you, and plenty of trackers would love to come along. The new Ad and Tracker Blocker on Android and iOS makes it easier than ever to decide how much of the web gets through. We aren’t against respectful advertising. A contextual ad that matches the page you’re reading, and doesn’t follow you around afterwards, is a fair way for a site to pay its writers. The ads we object to are the ones that track and profile you. They follow you from site to site and remember things about you that you never chose to share. The built-in Ad and Tracker Blocker was created to make those bad ads sad. Rad!For this release we have given the Ad and Tracker Blocker an extensive rebuild to handle large filter lists more efficiently. We’ve also given it an updated design with new labels. The updated Ad and Tracker Blocker gives you four default levels of protection to choose from:· Off: turns the built-in blocker off completely.· Light: blocks most known trackers and some ads.· Strong: blocks more trackers and ads, sites may break· Aggressive: blocks almost all trackers and ads, sites may break. You can set your default level of blocking from the settings or when onboarding to Vivaldi. The level you select from here will be applied to all sites, but in Vivaldi we always give you more. Ad blocking shouldn’t be all or nothing. In Vivaldi, you decide how much of the web gets through, one site at a time, on every device you use. That’s the kind of control a browser should give the people who use it.Levels really pay off when you set them per site. Put that dj-set on youtube on full blast without ads breaking your beat with Aggressive. Keep your bank on Light so every form works as expected. Turn protection down on the small independent site you trust and whose ads you’re happy to see. To set a level for the site you’re on, click the Shield icon in the Address bar. Vivaldi remembers your choice, so each site loads the way you decided. If you are particularly interested in the topic, we’ve also added the option to create “custom” levels. In these levels you configure everything yourself, giving you full control over which blocklists are used.On iOS you can add a custom block list either added from a remote URL or from their filemanager. On Android you can add it from the URL only. The same redesign arrives on Desktop today, so your protection looks and works the same way on your phone, tablet and computer. Copy Sanitized LinkLinks you share often carry tracking parameters that tell a site who shared them and where they came from. Copy Sanitized Link removes those before the link reaches your clipboard, so your friend gets the page and nothing else. To copy a link as sanitized, long-press on the Address Bar or open the Share menu, and select “copy sanitized link” to get a link without known tracking parameters at the end. What else is coming to Vivaldi on Android:Open links in the Stack you chooseTab Stacks keep your browsing organized, and now new links can land exactly where they belong. Long-press a link on a web page and choose which stack it should open in.Improved media controlsYour phone is often your one stop shop for your audio based pleasures. Radio, your podcast player and your music library all at once. With this release we’re making it much easier to move between any tab with audio you have open in Vivaldi. Say you have a radio station playing in one tab, a podcast waiting in another and a playlist in a third. Each tab with audio now shows up in your phone’s media controls, so you can switch between them right from the music player. There’s no need to open Vivaldi and hunt for the right tab, but if you click the selected source it will open directly in Vivaldi.Open in appOccasionally the app is the better place to be for some types of content, for a map you want to navigate with or a video you want to cast. When you’re on a site you also have an app for, open the main menu and tap Open in app. This will cause the particular page to open in the app for this one time. Your tab stays open in Vivaldi, so you can come right back. If you want all links to open inside Vivaldi, we have a setting that allows you to stay in the browser. What else is coming to Vivaldi on iOSFaster pages, longer battery life!Vivaldi on iOS now loads pages significantly faster with the Ad and Tracker Blocker on. In fact, it’s up to 12 times faster. In human walking terms, that would be the equivalent of going from running at a semi-casual 10 km/h to reaching cheetah speed at 120 km/h, pretty wild.Articles appear sooner and scrolling through your feeds feels snappier. The same work also means Vivaldi uses significantly less battery while you browse, so your phone has more left in the tank at the end of the day. In the infamous words of a famous masked french DJ duo: Harder, better, faster, stronger.Choose where new tabs open Like Vivaldi on desktop and Android, you can now decide where a new tab appears. Go to Settings > Tabs > New Tab Position and choose After Related Tab, After Active Tab, As Last Tab, or As Tab Stack with Related Tab. If you like your tabs grouped as you go, the last option sorts them into stacks for you.Vivaldi 8.3 for Mobile is available now:This is your browserWe cannot repeat this often enough: Vivaldi is an independent employee-owned European company.
