I wanted my WHOOP numbers on my Apple Watch Ultra so I built a small app

Wait 5 sec.

If you don't know it, WHOOP is a fitness band without a screen. All your numbers are in the app on your phone. I've had WHOOP since the WHOOP 2 and I love it more than anything. I hate the fitness tracking on the Apple Watch though, Apple's own and every third party app. Problem is I love the Ultra just for how it looks and I like having it on my wrist. Which meant I had a watch on my wrist and still pulled out my phone to see my recovery. So I thought ok why not both and built a small app. It's called Dials and it puts your recovery, strain, sleep, HRV, RHR and steps on the watch face next to the time. That's it, it doesn't track anything, your WHOOP still does that. I'm not making money with this and I don't collect any data. No ads either and you don't need another account. It pulls your numbers from the official WHOOP API straight to your phone and watch. Only the sign-in goes through a small server of mine and that never sees your numbers. Not affiliated with WHOOP, it's just me. The one thing that drove me nuts was the background updates. In the first version the numbers just stopped for 15 hours. As far as I can tell watchOS ran my token refresh on a background URLSession whenever it felt like it, sometimes hours later, and once the token expired nothing worked anymore. Now the watch does the refresh directly and the numbers update about every 30 minutes, at least during the day. Still have to check the nights. Few things if you want to try it: you need a WHOOP membership, watchOS 26 and iOS 26. Install it on the watch first and have the watch with you when you sign in, otherwise the button stays grey. Mine did when I left my watch at home lol. Also only 100 people can connect for now because that's the limit on WHOOP's API, so if it's full that's why. https://apps.apple.com/app/id6829277392 I know most of you don't have a WHOOP so I'm not expecting downloads here. But if you've built a watch app and found a better way to do background updates I'd like to hear it. And if you do have a WHOOP tell me if something's broken submitted by /u/Ein_Delphin [link] [comments]
