I'm building a website to help people discover events and plan things to do, whether they're home or traveling

Wait 5 sec.

The original idea for this actually came from my wife, who was constantly finding out about concerts from artists she liked after they had already happened or when it was too late to get tickets. I thought I’d try to solve her problems like a good husband and made The Scene (https://eventsonthescene.com). What started as a way to keep track of concerts has turned into a much bigger idea. Right now you can browse concerts, sports, comedy, theater, and other live events in different cities, follow artists, save events, and find places to get tickets. But the part I’m really excited about is where I want to take it. Say you’re visiting Nashville for a weekend. Instead of searching a bunch of different websites to figure out what’s going on, you could use The Scene to see what concerts, games, comedy shows, or other events are happening while you’re there. Then find restaurants, activities, and eventually hotels and flights to plan the rest of your trip around it. We’ve already started adding some of the restaurant and activity discovery stuff, and the longer-term roadmap includes hotels, flights, and potentially an AI trip planner that could put together an itinerary based on where you’re going and what you’re into. One of the biggest challenges so far has honestly been getting access to event data. We’re currently using a lot of Ticketmaster’s data and working on integrating other ticket providers, along with smaller local events that aren’t always listed on the major platforms. It’s definitely still early, and there’s a ton I want to build, but it’s been a really fun project to work on outside of my day job. Would love for anyone to check it out and give some feedback. Especially curious whether people would actually use something like this when visiting a new city, or if there’s anything you’d want to see added. submitted by /u/Horror_Pin1696 [link] [comments]
