Former Everton midfielder Barry Horne has named Eddie Howe as a leading candidate to replace David Moyes as manager.Moyes’ future at Everton is uncertain as the Scot approaches the end of his contract at Hill Dickinson Stadium, with the club’s ownership uncertainty having put contract talks on hold. Everton’s owners, The Friedkin Group, are exploring a potential sale, with any decision on the club’s managerial position paused. Moyes’ contract expires at the end of the campaign.Eddie Howe has been linked with the role, and has previously discussed his childhood support of Everton. The 48-year-old has been out of work since leaving Newcastle in July after five years at St James’ Park. During that time, he twice led the Magpies to Champions League qualification and to the 2025 EFL Cup.Horne believes Howe shares similarities with Moyes and could be an ideal successor. However, he warned that Everton could face competition from leading clubs, including Manchester United, for his signature. Speaking to ToffeeWeb’s Once a Blue podcast, Horne said: “Eddie Howe, in many ways, can you compare him to David Moyes? Experienced, quite stoic, honest, hardworking,” Horne said.“I think in the end that Newcastle was maybe working in an environment which wasn’t perfectly to his liking. I think he’d be great.“I think it would be more whether Eddie Howe will come to Everton rather than just a simple, can we go and get him? I’m sure he’s been sounded out by various clubs. Man United seem to be courting him.”Read – Alan Shearer urges Harry Kane to sign new Bayern Munich dealSee Also – Five of the best Premier League away kits in 2026/27The post Everton favourite names Eddie Howe as ‘great’ candidate to replace Moyes – but fears Man United competition appeared first on The Football Faithful.
