Sovereignty, Knightsbridge At Home with Team Godolphin at Jonabell Farm

In the days leading up to the GI Breeders' Cup Classic, Darley America sales manager Darren Fox frequently found himself noting that while the race's outcome was anyone's guess, it was guaranteed to be a performance people would be talking about for years to come. The script couldn't have been written much better for Team Godolphin. Sovereignty (Into Mischief) closed out his historic career by delivering the operation its first Classic victory, while front-running stablemate Knightsbridge (Nyquist) held out for third. The winner's circle celebration on Saturday marked the kickoff to a whirlwind week at Jonabell Farm. With both multi-millionaires set to join the Darley stallion roster in 2027, Knightsbridge and Sovereignty made the short trip from Keeneland to the stallion complex on Sunday.  “They are two of the most important stallion prospects that we've brought to the farm in a long time and they are definitely going to future-proof our stallion barn,” said Fox. “It's all credit to Bill Mott and his team for the masterful job they have done. We're just lucky to be associated and be the benefactors of his skill and talent.”Fox reported that both stallions have quickly settled into their new surroundings as they step into their roles and begin showing for visiting breeders this week.Sovereignty will stand for an introductory fee of $150,000, the highest for any new stallion since Flightline's $200,000 initial fee in 2023. The 2025 Horse of the Year is the only horse to sweep the GI Kentucky Derby, GI Travers Stakes and Breeders' Cup Classic and he retired as Into Mischief's lifetime leading performer with earnings of over $10.5 million.“He is your true, American Classic dirt horse,” said Fox. “To have his pedigree, his sire and be out of a Bernardini mare, his looks and his demeanor, he has everything that anyone could want in a stallion prospect.”Knightsbridge will stand for $75,000. A 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard' and the winner of five graded stakes, his resume is highlighted by a six-length score in the GI Pacific Classic and a 10-length romp in the GIII Monmouth Cup Stakes, where he earned a 122 Beyer Speed Figure.Knightsbridge is the first son of Darley's star sire Nyquist—whose fee increased for the upcoming season from $175,000 to $225,000—to retire to Jonabell. Out of a Bernardini daughter of champion Round Pond, his page features two other Grade I-winning studmates in Speaker's Corner and Highland Falls.“He's an important horse for us in that he is a son of Nyquist, our flagship stallion who we have experienced incredible demand with,” said Fox. “That Uncle Mo sire line is looking like it is a really important sire line for generating sires and sires of sires. Being a half-brother to our exciting young stallion Speaker's Corner, who is the only freshman sire with four stakes winners and two graded stakes winners, it is an immense female family. Round Pond is an incredibly important mare for Godolphin, but my hunch is that she will end up being an important mare for the breed.”Knightsbridge settling in at Jonabell | Sara GordonBeyond their commercial value, the arrival of both homebreds marks a milestone years in the making for the Jonabell team. Knightsbridge represents the culmination of a breeding legacy as a second-generation homebred, while Sovereignty carries the historic weight of the horse that finally delivered Godolphin its elusive Kentucky Derby.Matt Daubeney, a native of Jersey in the Channel Islands and recent Godolphin Flying Start graduate,  joined the Darley nominations team earlier this year. For the keen young professional, experiencing the colt's championship run has provided a memorable baptism by fire.“I feel very lucky to have been to one Kentucky Derby and one Breeders' Cup and both of them involved Sovereignty,” he explained. “To not only win as a deep closer as he did in the Derby, but then in the Classic to be able to sit on the pace and then quicken away, I think he showed so much versatility. He's everything you really want in a racehorse in America and sort of that Derby-style sire is what we all hope he will be.”A similar sentiment is matched by those who have been a part of the operation's success for decades. For Peggy Sherwood, who has spent the last 20 years as the welcoming face at Jonabell as Office Administrator, Sovereignty's historic sweep delivered a lifetime milestone.“When he crossed the finish line and was the winner, nothing can compare to that,” she enthused. “I'm a Kentucky girl, born and bred, and that is probably one of my very top things in my whole entire 67 years of life. Bringing the Kentucky Derby home for Godolphin and now the Breeders' Cup Classic, it just doesn't get any better.”The post Sovereignty, Knightsbridge At Home with Team Godolphin at Jonabell Farm appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
