Southern California Nursing Programs — Community College vs. Private Schools (Looking for Real Experiences)

Wait 5 sec.

Hello everyone, I'm currently completing my prerequisites at Santa Monica College and expect to have them finished by Spring 2028. My goal is to start a nursing program in Fall 2028 or as soon as possible afterward. I'm debating whether I should pursue my RN through SMC because I've heard the wait to get accepted into community college nursing programs can be long. I'm interested in hearing about people's experiences getting accepted into community college nursing programs in Southern California. How long did you have to wait after completing your prerequisites? Which schools would you recommend for someone trying to avoid a lengthy admissions process? I'm also open to private nursing schools, including programs like American Career College (ACC), Gurnick, Concord, etc., that don't require all the traditional science prerequisites before starting. My biggest concerns with private schools are the cost and finding employment after graduation. I've heard mixed experiences, including some negative reviews, so I'd really like honest feedback from people who have attended or graduated from these programs. I'd prefer to avoid taking out student loans, but I understand that may be necessary with some private programs. Before making that kind of financial investment, I want to know whether graduates were successful, whether they were able to find jobs after completing the program, and how much financial aid actually helped cover the cost. I'd love to hear from current students and graduates about their experiences with admissions, wait times, tuition, financial aid, employment opportunities, and whether they feel their program was worth the investment. I'm trying to make an informed decision and find a path that allows me to start school without waiting years while also being financially realistic. Thank you! submitted by /u/Mundane_Bill7505 [link] [comments]
