What do you do when the doctors leave you without orders?

Wait 5 sec.

I’m a new grad RN working in pediatrics. Had a case where a cancer patient was post operative and on a pain control regimen. They did not have a PCA pump - they had ATC Q6 Tylenol, Q4 oxycodone and PRN IV Morphine Q2. So, of course during the last hour of my shift my patient is in 10/10 uncontrollable pain. Maxed out on everything. I notify the resident. The resident tells me the attending said he is maxed out on pain medication and there isn’t much they can do. I ask for them to come check on the patient at least because he does look like he’s getting worse. Do you know what they do? Tell me they’re signing out, and that day team will be coming to deal with it. So now, I was stuck with parents pressuring me to do something and having no orders. And also not knowing when a doctor would be coming. What would you guys do? Sorry if this sounds stupid submitted by /u/ironicoutcomes [link] [comments]
