I'm new to Swift and built a nutrition app with no calorie goals, no streaks and no guilt

Wait 5 sec.

A few months ago I'd never touched Swift or Xcode. Now bloop is live on the App Store, and I wanted to share how it went. The idea: food trackers made me feel bad. So in bloop you log a food and cute jars fill up with the nutrients it gave you (protein, iron, B12...). There are no calorie goals, no streaks and no red warnings, and the bubbles start fresh every morning. Some things I didn't expect: - My family were my best testers. My mom eats one biscuit from a four-pack, so she needed quarter servings. My dad pointed out that plant omega-3s and fish omega-3s aren't the same thing, so I split them into two bubbles. - Apple rejected my first App Store version because health info needs citations in the app. I added a Sources page with a link for every number, and it was approved on the next try. - Food data is messy. One egg carton in a public database listed vitamin D 1,000x too high, which showed as "+150,000%". Now bloop throws out numbers that are physically impossible. It's $2.99, paid once, with no ads, no account and no subscription. It works on iPhone, iPad and Mac. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/bloop-nutrition/id6822119822 Happy to answer questions about building it as a beginner, or hear what you'd change! submitted by /u/chickpea8765 [link] [comments]
