West Hollywood’s City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to create a local registry that allows throuples, foursomes, and other multi-partner groups to officially register as domestic partners, granting them rights normally reserved for families, such as hospital visitation and tenant protections. The ordinance, introduced by Mayor John Heilman, lets three or more adults file paperwork with the city clerk to record their relationship, provided the arrangement is consensual and the participants are not related by blood in a way that would bar marriage under California law.Registration is open even to people who do not live in the city.Leftists framed the measure as a practical step for adults who maintain romantic or committed relationships with more than one person.“The measure also extends certain legal protections to registered partners, requiring healthcare facilities and city-operated jails to recognize their visitation rights,” the New York Post reports. “Additionally, it provides housing protections by preventing landlords from terminating or refusing to renew a lease when a partner remains in the rental property.”Attorney Christina Fialho, founder of the bisexual media group Rewrite the BiLine and a key advocate who first raised the idea with Councilmember Chelsea Lee Byers in early 2025, told the Los Angeles Times that “this law is just the beginning” and that it “makes it possible for people to dream about a future they once thought was out of reach.”Byers described the protections as “long overdue.”The city had already added “family or relationship structure” as a protected class in an earlier anti-discrimination ordinance. The new registry does not grant the full legal status of marriage or a state-registered domestic partnership. It also does not automatically grant inheritance rights, tax benefits, or employer health insurance coverage, which state and federal law still governs.California’s bigamy statutes and the two-person limit on official domestic partnerships still constrain what the city ordinance can accomplish.West Hollywood is not the first city to support polygamous relationships.Somerville and Cambridge, Massachusetts, previously allowed multi-partner domestic partnership registration.Berkeley and Oakland, California, have also adopted similar anti-discrimination rules covering “family structure.”The West Hollywood ordinance takes effect in 30 days. The post West Hollywood Unanimously Votes to Officially Recognize Throuples and Foursomes with New Domestic Partner Registry appeared first on The Gateway Pundit.
