Echo 2.0: offline voice typing for Windows and Linux, from your terminal

Wait 5 sec.

I tried a few dictation apps, but couldn't find one that quite fit what I wanted, so I built Echo. It's now on version 2. The basic idea is simple: hold a key, speak, release, and the text appears in the app you're working in. You can use it for messages, notes, long prompts, or whatever you'd normally type. Speech recognition runs locally using Whisper. Main features for version 2 include: Linux support, including X11 and Wayland. A setup wizard that helps you choose and download a model for your hardware, configure the hotkey, and test your microphone. Completely new UI Settings and updates accessible directly from the terminal. It's free and open source under MIT. GitHub: https://github.com/GithubPhobos/Echo Hope you'll like it. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. submitted by /u/JudgePhobos [link] [comments]
