Is the US going to stay the main global medical research hub in the future?

Wait 5 sec.

With the developments in the last 1-2 years, some time has passed where we can assess the effects on the role of the US as the global hub for medical research. As a European, the US was always seen as the top no. 1 place for medicine in the world. Do you think this has, or will change? On the one hand, the environment has changed. More people are anti-science, there have been a lot of crackdowns on immigrants, i have heard of a lot of people afraid to go to the US for conferences even for example. On the other hand, the financials are still strongly in favour of the US. Nobody pays physicians, researchers as much. US hospitals are still at the top in every global ranking. Other Western countries have set up programms for scientists and healthcare professionals to move, but from what i have read, that effort has been mostly fruitless in the grand scheme of thinks. It may be China that becomes very competitive in medical research (or actually already is), but it seems that we are more looking at a duopoly rather than somebody really dethroning the US. submitted by /u/Halale01 [link] [comments]
