Folarin Balogun was originally not named to AS Monaco’s UEFA Conference League roster but will now play a part in the European competition.Balogun was added to Felipe Luis’ roster for the club tournament, UEFA announced on its website on Tuesday. The American forward has taken the place of Ansu Fati, whose name has been removed from Monaco’s squad following a recent injury suffered on October 25. Luis did not rely heavily on Balogun’s services during the opening stages of the season following the 25-year-old’s linking to English Premier League side Everton. Balogun looked set to make the move to Merseyside, but turned down the move after the Toffees were worried about his fitness following his busy summer with the U.S. Men’s National Team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Balogun scored three goals at the World Cup and also found the back of the net in a friendly win over Senegal. Balogun has since stayed at Monaco, making five substitute appearances, logging 116 minutes, and recently scoring his first goal of the campaign in a 3-1 Ligue 1 defeat to Paris FC. Born in New York, Balogun spent most of his life in England and came up through the Arsenal academy. He later joined Monaco in a permanent move from Arsenal ahead of the 2023-24 campaign and has since tallied 32 goals in 96 appearances for the club. Monaco has won both of its league phase matches so far in the Conference League and next hosts Danish side Nordsjaelland on Thursday.
