Letters to The Editor — November 5, 2026 - The HinduPublished - November 05, 2026 12:24 am ISTA rebuke to TrumpAmerican voters have delivered a stinging rebuke to President Donald Trump in the midterm elections, rejecting candidates he personally endorsed. His campaign manoeuvres, including a ‘promise’ to pay every adult citizen $5,000 if Republicans retained control of Congress, failed to secure victory. The pledge was conditional on a Republican win, rather than an unconditional payment to voters. Given Mr. Trump’s conduct after the 2020 election, it is reassuring that he has reportedly said he would abide by the midterm results. Hopefully, Americans and people around the world will also be spared his repeated and obtuse rhetoric. The tariffs that Mr. Trump imposed on numerous countries, including India, through executive action should be reviewed.
