I got tired of my chess engine saying “mistake” without telling me why, so I built an app that explains it

Wait 5 sec.

Every time I reviewed one of my games, the engine would flag a move as a mistake and show me some line like Nf5. That was it. No reason, no idea behind it. I’d click through the moves for a while, still not get it, and close the tab. So I started building something to fix that for myself, and over the last few months it turned into Plyra Chess. It’s a desktop app for Windows and Mac, and you can use it for free. You load a game and it walks you through the moments that actually decided it. It tells you what you played, what was better, and why, in normal words. It still has full engine analysis if you want the numbers. The part I use the most is the account review. You connect your Chess.com or Lichess username and it goes through your recent games. It shows you where you keep losing points, how your openings are really doing, and how you stack up against the people you play. Then it gives you a training plan based on your own games instead of the usual “just do more puzzles.” I’m building this on my own, on top of a regular job and family stuff, so it’s been a lot of late nights. It’s live now with a free tier and paid plans for people who want more reviews and explanations. If you play chess, I’d really like to know if the explanations actually help you, and what would make you open it after every game. plyrachess.murrtech.pro r/PlyraChess if you want to follow along submitted by /u/GoodMix6333 [link] [comments]
