I can't believe people are actually using my Postman alternative app.

Wait 5 sec.

I've been a software developer for over 10 years, mostly working with TypeScript, React, Node.js and Flutter. I knew pretty much nothing about Rust, but a few months ago I decided to try building my own API client with Rust and GPUI, using AI agents to write most of the code. That's how Probe started. I originally just wanted something faster and simpler than Postman. Didn't really expect it to turn into such a big project. Since my last post here, I've added quite a few things: GraphQL and WebSocket support Response assertions in both desktop and CLI mTLS with PEM and PKCS#12 certificates Postman environment imports A bunch of UI improvements and bug fixes Probe also has a CLI for automation and AI agents, supports Postman and Yaak collections, and stores everything locally. No accounts, cloud sync or telemetry. Having 10 years of development experience definitely helps, but I can't pretend I understand every bit of Rust the agents write. I can usually tell when an implementation is getting unnecessarily complicated, or when a small feature somehow turns into changes across 20 files. For Rust-specific stuff, I rely on the compiler, Clippy, tests and other AI agents to help review the code. It's not foolproof, obviously. I've had fixes introduce new bugs, and sometimes spent more time going back and forth with agents than it would've taken to write the feature myself in TypeScript. So yeah, I'm writing less code these days, but I'm not exactly doing less work lol. Anyway, Probe is open source if anyone wants to check it out: https://github.com/crizant/probe Would love some feedback, especially from people who use Postman, Bruno or Yaak regularly. submitted by /u/crizant [link] [comments]
