The NFL and TMRW Sports have joined forces to create a new professional flag football league. The league, which will be called Premier Flag, will launch in the summer of 2027 ahead of flag football taking place as an Olympic event for the first time in LA in 2028.The iconic Rose Bowl is set to host the medal games of the LA28 football (soccer) tournamentGetty“I’m not sure there’s ever been a league that’s launched with more tailwinds,” said TMRW Sports President of Flag Football Brendan Donohue.“And we are adding the pro tier to that ecosystem. So we view Premier Flag as the long-term platform for elite professional competition for men and women.”Back in December, the NFL‘s ownership group unanimously approved a $32 million investment to support the development and launch of a professional men’s and women’s flag football league.Following that, the NFL announced a partnership with TMRW Sports for the development and operation of a then unnamed professional flag football league, which we now know to be Premier Flag.TMRW Sports is the parent company and group responsible for launching the alternative golf league, TMRW Golf League (TGL).The innovative indoor golf format was formed in 2022 by TMRW Sports and two of the biggest names in the sport in Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, as well as and former Golf Channel president Mike McCarley.TGL, which just announced a landmark partnership with Topgolf, integrates traditional professional golf with the latest technology to produce fast-paced match play.TGL went down a storm during its first season in 2025, with the third edition of the simulator league, which now includes Brooks Koepka, beginning on 27 December. As a result of its popularity and success, TMRW Sports is now estimated to be valued at over $1 billion based on its latest investment round back in September. However, the group is branching out beyond the world of golf to put itself at the forefront of flag football.TGL was founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, and represents a bold new venture in professional golfGettyFounders quarterback Tom Brady (12) throws a pass during the Fanatics Flag Football ClassicGettyAccording to the Sports Business Journal, Populous has been hired to design the Premier Flag’s stadium, and Transwestern is leading the host city/league hub selection process. All competition in Year 1 of the new venture will occur in a single venue in a host city yet to be named.According to a document obtained by the SBJ, Premier Flag’s logo is designed to include two stars to signify a men’s and women’s division. The shape is intended as a ‘nod’ to the NFL shield’s heritage, and a stylized football image including laces to create an “unmistakably American style” football. There’s no doubt that the 2028 Olympics will serve as the perfect stage for the sport to truly reach a global audience, with both TMRW Sports and the NFL banking on flag football becoming a global phenomenon.Peter O’Reilly, the NFL’s executive vice president, club business, international and league events, spoke about the venture during an appearance on the Up & Adams Show earlier this year.“We’re in the lab, if you will, of really building what that league’s going to be like,” O’Reilly said.“Thinking about what’s the structure of it, where are we playing games, how does it roll out?“Incredibly exciting to be having conversations with the athletes who are going to play in this league, who maybe dreamed one day there might be a professional flag league, and now we’re saying, ‘This is real.’”Sign up for talkSPORT Stateside, the YouTube channel dedicated to passionate US Sports fans. Will Gavin, Brian T.
