Morbidly obese patients should be on their own unit

Wait 5 sec.

I feel like patients over a certain weight limit should be on a specific unit that pays nurses more to work in. I’m losing the emotional& physical capacity to take care of morbidly obese patients. I can no longer count on my hands the amount of 500lb+ patients I’ve had in the ICU. Using the lift if it even works to turn. Getting multiple staff members to help clean, reposition limbs, get ivs. Going to procedures or tests turns into a full team job that takes additional resources away from everybody else. It’s tough when they’re intubated and sedated but just as tough when they’re extubated and demanding a bunch of things and or rushing me. This does not apply to everybody of course but I had such a difficult shift today with a 700lb man and felt like venting. submitted by /u/Necessary-Broccoli70 [link] [comments]
