A lot of very fond memories of my time here – four years of probably the best football I played in my career.“There was a warmth, a love, a feeling that I probably didn’t have anywhere else. There was something which stood out constantly and that was the relationship that I built up with the fanbase here. That rapport and respect, that I felt instantly.“More than anything, this is an opportunity that I am very excited about. I feel privileged and honoured to be the guy that wants to lead us back to the Premier League and be the Head Coach of this Football Club at this moment in time.Parker has won promotion from the Championship three timesGetty“My energy levels, my enthusiasm, my desire, my passion – it’s absolutely running through and that’s the feeling I had as soon as there was a conversation that this was possible. That’s exactly why I’m here and why I want to be here.“From my first calls with Karim [Virani] and Daniel [Křetínský], it was clear they have a shared vision and desire to return the Club to the Premier League as quickly as possible. I share that ambition and I’m very confident we can achieve it.“I’ve been in this division three times and I’ve got out of this division three times. This is a tough division, there is absolutely no denying it. And I will use every ounce of my experience, every ounce of my knowledge, to have an understanding of what we’re going to need to bring consistency.“And that’s going to be the key word for all of us really. The consistency of what we do and the commitment levels that we go to will give us the best opportunity to get out of this division and be the team that we can be.”Parker to West HamThe former Hammers midfielder was available as a free agent after leaving Burnley in April.Parker has won promotion out of the Championship three times in his managerial career with Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley. As a player, the former England international spent four years with West Ham between 2007 and 2011.During that time, he made 129 appearances for the club, scoring 12 goals from midfield.Parker was also named the Hammers’ Player of the Year in each of his final three seasons at Upton Park.West Ham on Nuno sackingIn a statement confirming the Nuno’s sacking, the club said: “West Ham United can confirm that men’s first-team head coach Nuno Espírito Santo has left his position with immediate effect.“Following a thorough review of the start to the EFL Championship season, the board of directors believe that a change is necessary at this time in order to ensure that the club’s objectives and expectations remain on track.Back-to-back defeats saw Nuno’s side slide down the tableGetty“Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa have also departed.“West Ham United would like to thank Nuno, Rui and Rui for their hard work and commitment during their time at the club, and wish them all the very best for the future.“The process of recruiting a new head coach is already underway.Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville will take temporary charge of squad preparations ahead of tomorrow evening’s EFL Championship fixture at Cardiff City, and the club will make no further comment until the appointment of the new head coach is confirmed.”talkSPORT verdictFormer West Ham manager Harry Redknapp told talkSPORT Breakfast that the hiring of Parker is a good move.He said: “Scott’s got a great record in the Championship, having taken teams up. He knows the club. He was a very, very good player. I took him from West Ham to Tottenham.“He’s a good lad. He was a very, very good player and a very astute manager. So I think he’s a great fit for West Ham. “I went to the club at 14 and looking back all those years, I think this would probably be the worst group of players I’ve seen at West Ham in that time. “So he hasn’t got an easy job on his hands. Take Bowen aside, the rest of the squad, there are very few players there that would have got in too many West Ham teams over the years. “But they’ve got great support. It’s a massive club that unfortunately needs a big lift now.“Hopefully Scott can go in and give them that lift they need.”
