12 AI agent features you probably missed in October Here's my list of agents that released something cool this month, with how local each one really is. I dug through all the changelogs so you don't have to. Claude Code (Oct 14). 26 releases in October. The one worth knowing: a long chat you leave idle gets summarized, so coming back after the cache expired doesn't mean paying to resend 200K+ tokens. No local tag since it's built around Anthropic's models. Codex CLI (Oct 27). Went from 0.160 to 0.166 in October. Version 0.165 added GPT-6.1 Terra, turned memory on by default for new profiles and can import memories from your other agents. Cloud first because OpenAI's own models are cloud only, local works through the --oss flag with Ollama or LM Studio. Cursor (Oct 6 to 20). On Oct 6 you could start controlling your local agents from the Cursor iPhone app. On Oct 20 it shipped an Agent SDK with a CLI to set up, test and deploy your own Cursor agents. Copilot CLI (Oct 27). Assisted Permissions came out of experimental: the AI helps decide which actions need your OK, and you can now give it written rules for that. It finds your Ollama models since Oct 7, but its docs say it still sends telemetry with your own key unless you turn on offline mode, so it's cloud first. Atomic Agent (Oct 7 to 21). 14 releases in October, plus a new desktop app that now generates images and video, local or cloud. Local by default means it ships its own llama.cpp and starts on a local model with no setup or API key. If the cloud drops mid-task, it quietly keeps going on the local one. Kimi Code (Oct 28). Version 2.4 imports your Claude Code and Codex sessions, so you can switch mid-project without starting over. It's built around Moonshot's Kimi models and works with other compatible providers, so cloud first. Gemini CLI (Oct 27). A stable release every week in October, 0.63 to 0.66, and 0.66 fixed the terminal flicker. No local tag: the agent always talks to Google, only an optional experimental routing model runs locally. Antigravity (Oct 15 to 27). 11 app releases in October. Gemini 4 Argon arrived on Oct 15, and on Oct 27 the agent got its own built-in browser and PDF viewer. OpenClaw (Oct 18). The "assistant" tag is because it's a personal AI assistant that lives in your chat apps, not only a coding tool in a terminal. Its 2026.10.5 release merged 2,250 PRs from 637 contributors. Local works after setup through its llama.cpp plugin, Ollama or LM Studio. Amp (Oct 10 to 27). On Oct 10 it let you use the Claude plan you already pay for inside Amp, and on Oct 27 it got an Android app. Self-hosted Orbs landed in between, on Oct 22. OpenCode (Oct 27 to 30). Version 2.2 added plugins to the desktop app, and 2.2.4 made desktop terminals belong to the session, so they survive a server restart. Local works once you point it at a llama.cpp or Ollama endpoint, I ran it that way on a Qwen 27B this week. Hermes Agent (Oct 13). The "Threshold" release added local models in one click: it installs and maintains llama.cpp for you, no account or API key. It's opt-in, offered after onboarding, and usage stats are off by default too. submitted by /u/Ok-Brush8377 [link] [comments]
