I was floated to ED - little acknowledgment of the bs you guys deal with

Wait 5 sec.

I haven’t been floated elsewhere in a hot minute, but recently I went down to ED and one interaction in particular made me realise I couldn’t put up with the bs and work there long term Busy shift, but that’s not new in ED. I called a few codes in a matter of couple of hours, STEMIs, stroke, you get the picture. Then had a patient that arrested in the middle of my work up, called a code blue, CPR, all the goods. After this patient was sorted, I tried to catch up with the other patients, including the call bell. I go in, big smile ‘hi how can I help’ ‘I’VE BEEN WAITING HOURS FOR A FUCKING SANDWICH! WHY DID YOU TAKE SO LONG TO ANSWER THE BELL, I could’ve been dead and you’d never know, you incompetent bitch’ - says the man with chief complaint of abdo pain, who has also been told he’s fasting I genuinely felt like I was gonna grab a sandwich and throw it in his face To keep my cool, I just said you’re fasting and closed the sliding door, and went to the bathroom to calm myself down I come out of the bathroom, his bell is ringing I just wanted to acknowledge the shit our ED colleagues deal with on the daily Frankly, every specialty deals with shit just in different shades and we’ve learned to deal with them accordingly, but I’ve never had to get yelled at for a fucking sandwich after being done giving CPR submitted by /u/No_Leading3793 [link] [comments]
