Manchester United fans must give it a rest as Unai Emery looks set to commit his long-term future to Aston Villa. That’s according to Gabby Agbonlahor, although his talkSPORT colleague Simon Jordan has tipped the Spaniard to win a Premier League title – but not at Villa Park.Villa are set to keep hold of Emery by offering him a new deal beyond 2029GettytalkSPORT understands Emery will sign a new deal to keep him at Villa beyond the 2029 expiry date of his current contract following sustained success as their head coach. The former Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain boss ended their 30-year wait for a major trophy by winning last season’s Europa League and is in a second Champions League campaign. With Michael Carrick struggling as the United head coach, Emery has been tipped as a potential successor should he be dismissed. However, a new deal at Villa will surely end any prospect of him going to Old Trafford, and club legend Agbonlahor will be happy to see the back of the speculation.Agbonlahor message to the ‘idiots’“He’s a fantastic manager, and I’m so happy that this is going to shut up all the idiots,” he said on talkSPORT Breakfast.“‘He should go to Man United… he should go there, because he could do what he did at Villa with Man United, he could bring these people’, he doesn’t want to go to Manchester United. “Players might want to go because they can maybe pay more money. (Youri) Tielemans is there sitting on the bench, eating some humble pie. “But Aston Villa can pay the same amount for a manager as Manchester United. The money he’s going to be earning at Villa on his new contract, you’re talking £16/17million-a-year.“So, why would he leave? He’s got a fantastic project, a club that loves him, the fans love him, the owners love him. Why would you go to a toxic football club in Manchester United that’s a mess?”Can Emery win the Premier League? When reacting to Agbonlahor’s question at the end of his passionate plea, former Crystal Palace owner Jordan stated: “Because you’ve got ambition.”Villa legend Agbonlahor sent a message to United fans amid the news of Emery’s new contract as Villa bosstalkSPORTWhite and Jordan host Jim White said Emery has ambition to do well at Villa, but Jordan insisted: “Villa will not, while I’ve got a hole in my backside, win the Premier League, they won’t win the Champions League. “We might be able to have a street celebration like we did for Newcastle if Villa win the League Cup.”“Villa won’t win the Premier League and won’t win the Champions League under Unai Emery?” White asked.“Unai Emery is capable of winning the Premier League I think, yeah,” Jordan responded.“But I think with the restrictions that are put on Aston Villa unfairly by the construction of the league and the finances that go around it, I think it’s very difficult for them to do so.”On whether United would make a move for Emery if they part with Carrick, he replied: “I don’t know if they’ll move for Unai Emery because, if Unai Emery is signing a new contract, I think it’s fantastic for Aston Villa and well done him for doing it. Whilst Jordan doesn’t think Villa can win the Premier League, he reckons Emery can do so elsewhereGetty“He’s been given a lot of support, he’s been given a great job, they’re a great football club. But it doesn’t alter the parameters. “What Jamie Carragher said (‘Aston Villa will never be Manchester United’), that I fundamentally agree with and most sensible people do, rather than sensitive little souls up in Birmingham that somehow have got some right not to be observed upon.”
