Just had this thought after seeing a post here a couple of hours ago titled "My PS5 forces me to update after a system reset." What if Sony actually forced an online PSN handshake when setting up a brand-new console or after every factory reset? Imagine h

Imagine if Sony mandated an active PSN server handshake/Online check-in during the initial setup of a brand new console, or after every single factory reset, before letting you hit the home screen. Honestly, from a pure corporate and security standpoint, you couldn't even blame them. It would make complete sense to protect their hardware and subscription ecosystem. But if they actually enforced that, wouldn't the entire scene as we know it be completely different. Buying a brand new console on low firmware would be useless since you couldn't finish setup without pinging their servers and being forced to update. On top of that, a forced factory reset which we get too often or corrupted database would instantly ruin an exploitable console.. Didn't we get really lucky with how offline-friendly the PS5 hardware still is? How do you think the community would have responded if Sony had implemented this from day one? submitted by /u/PerceptionFit24 [link] [comments]
