I have a toxic student. I raised my price and they're pushing back with reasons that don't make sense to me. What can I do to deal with this situation?

Wait 5 sec.

I have a student who caused me a lot of issues with blatantly disrespectful and boundary pushing behavior. They pushed for a same day trial, ignored time zone differences and demanded immediate replies far outside of business hours, repeatedly talked down to me until I threatened consequences, pushed for a class time that made no sense to me, etc. Dealing with this person made me sick and I suspect it took the focus and energy I needed to focus on other more important goals. They'd purchased a block of 8 lessons (I pushed for this and didn't expect them to agree, but they eventually did). The day before the 8th lesson, I notified them I will be raising my price from $35/hr to $45/hr from the next payment period. They tried to corner me and basically gaslight me into taking that back. I redirected them to text and ended the call. They're saying they committed to taking classes for 3 months so they think the price should stay the same. The next class is supposed to happen this evening but they haven't paid (I have an upfront payment policy and students are asked to pay 24 hours in advance, so this means the next class is not going forward). For more context, I don't think the current price is fair and I was pressured into agreeing to a lower price than what I thought was reasonable. I basically have to design a crash course -- this person is trying to upskill on something they had no exposure beforehand on a tight timeline for work reasons. I'm probably going to say I'm going to stick with the new price and I can't go forward with the next class because they haven't paid. I'm also considering saying something like they can pay in 4 instead of 8 blocks or reduce class time if the new price is an issue, but I know this student would want a mile if I give them an inch I'm willing to continue teaching them if they agree to the new price but not for the current price. What would you do? Thanks a lot for reading! submitted by /u/No-Cut-5129 [link] [comments]
