MagisterDesk - by Amazon engineer - a web app for teachers to run oral exams, assessments and grading in one place

Wait 5 sec.

I am an SDE in Amazon and as a side project I've spent the last 10 months building MagisterDesk, a tool for teachers who run their own classes and are tired of juggling a gradebook, a quiz tool, a file share and a stack of recordings. Why: I grew up in a family of teachers, during my school and university years I was always having ideas on how to help my parents to make their work more efficient. I like teaching myself, I do quite many private lessons. So, using my experience as an SDE at Amazon I decided to build something cool by myself. What it does today: - Oral exams. The teacher sets the questions, students record their answers at home, the teacher listens back and grades with a rubric. Transcripts are generated so you can skim before listening. - Assessments that are hard to cheat. Each student gets a different draw from a question pool, timed, with proctoring that watches for tab switching and other violations (cheating attempts). - Assignments and a gradebook. Submissions in, feedback out, and per-question statistics so you can see which question the whole class got wrong instead of just the average. - AI helpers. Draft questions from a PDF, slides or a photo of a textbook page; get a suggested grade on a written answer that the teacher accepts or changes. The AI never sets a grade on its own. - A lot more can be found by the link: https://magisterdesk.com I would really like your opinions on it and asking to recommend it to anyone who might find it useful. submitted by /u/Comfortable_Sea8145 [link] [comments]
