Spurs Web has crunched the numbers to see how Ballon d’Or-chasing Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Ibrahim Maza compares with Tottenham’s number 10s amid transfer interest from the Lilywhites.Bayer Leverkusen’s Ibrahim Maza is one player who has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in recent weeks. The 20-year-old has impressed with the German outfit this campaign and has attracted interest from a host of clubs, not just Spurs.Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal are also said to be in the mix for the Algerian. Meanwhile, Maza himself has big ambitions, with the 20-year-old wanting to win the Ballon d’Or and the Champions League at some point in his career. He said: “I definitely want to win the Champions League one day. That is certainly one of my goals, of course. And my dream is to be among the best players in the world one day and win the Ballon d’Or. That’s what I’m working towards.”Winning such trophies at Spurs might not sound realistic at the moment, but you never know. Luka Modric and Harry Kane are two players to have played for Tottenham and gone on to win the Ballon d’Or.But how does Maza compare with the midfielders at Tottenham, and is he really worth the hype? Spurs Web has crunched the numbers.Photo by Pau Barrena/Getty ImagesHow Ibrahim Maza compares with Tottenham’s number 10s this seasonMerely looking at the midfielder’s stats this season, he is head and shoulders above Tottenham’s current number 10 options.Maza has already popped up with five goal contributions this campaign, having scored three times and provided two assists. That is more than any of Spurs’ number 10s so far this term, with Maddison, Gallagher and Marmoush all on one goal.None of Tottenham’s number 10s has even registered an assist so far this season. And while the numbers favour Maza, it is worth noting that Maddison has made only two starts this campaign, while Gallagher has made three.Marmoush is the only one close to the Algerian in terms of minutes played, with the Egyptian on 594 after seven starts, while Maza sits on 690 after eight starts. On the numbers alone, Maza does topple all of Spurs’ number 10 options this season when it comes to raw output.StatisticIbrahim MazaOmar MarmoushConor GallagherJames MaddisonClubLeverkusenTottenhamTottenhamTottenhamLeagueBundesligaPremier LeaguePremier LeaguePremier LeagueAppearances8876Starts8732Minutes690594293195Goals3111Assists2000Goal involvements5111Goals per 900.390.150.310.46Goal involvements per 900.650.150.310.46Maza’s best season vs Spurs’ number 10sTo give us an even better idea of just how good Maza is as an attacking midfielder, we also compared his best season with those of all of Spurs’ number 10 options, including Xavi Simons, to see how he stacks up against them.Looking at the best campaigns of each of these players, Maza’s is the least productive. However, it is important to note that he is still only 20 and has not played as many seasons as the likes of James Maddison, Marmoush and Gallagher. The 20-year-old’s best season came in 25/26, when he managed 12 goal involvements in 44 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen. In fairness, that is far from groundbreaking, especially when looking at Marmoush’s output in the same league. When the former City man was at Eintracht Frankfurt, he put up much better numbers, grabbing 20 goals and 14 assists in 26 games in the 2024/25 season. That is more than double Maza’s return from his best campaign.Simons comes in second among the number 10s for best season, thanks to a return of 33 goal involvements in 48 games for PSV in 2022/23. In third is Maddison, with 30 goal involvements in 53 games for Leicester City in the 2021/22 season.Dejan Kulusevski is also on the list and sits right behind Maddison after his return of 21 goal involvements in 51 games in 2024/25.Gallagher is then just above Maza, who comes in last. The former Chelsea man’s best campaign saw him manage 16 goal contributions in 50 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists. On these figures alone, it is rather hard to justify Spurs making a move for Maza.Best club season (all competitions, ranked by goals plus assists)PlayerSeasonClubAppsGoalsAssistsG+AOmar Marmoush2024/25Frankfurt / Man City48281745Xavi Simons2022/23PSV48221133James Maddison2021/22Leicester City53181230Dejan Kulusevski2024/25Spurs50101121Conor Gallagher2023/24Chelsea507916Ibrahim Maza2025/26Leverkusen445712READ MORE: Tottenham could turn to Ivan Toney to solve goalscoring woes, but Newcastle want him tooThe post Ibrahim Maza vs Tottenham’s number 10s: Stats show why Spurs want the Ballon d’Or hopeful appeared first on Spurs Web.
