Folarin Balogun will not be heading to the English Premier League, at least for now.Balogun reportedly decided against a permanent move to Everton despite the Merseyside club putting in a deal sheet past the 11 p.m. UK deadline. The American striker had been at Everton’s training ground for most of Tuesday to undergo his medical but instead will stay at Monaco for the time being. Everton had agreed a £40 million ($54.1 million) deal with French club Monaco for Balogun’s services on Monday, but were not able to get the American forward to sign his contract. The move came in part of a trickle effect as Monaco’s Lamine Camara was slated to join Chelsea earlier in the day, but instead saw his proposed move to Chelsea fall through. Both Balogun and Camara will remain Monaco players, at least until the January Transfer Window. Balogun originally came up through the Arsenal academy but rarely saw senior playing time with the Gunners. He was loaned to Middlesbrough and Stade Reims during his time in London before eventually moving to Monaco in 2024. The 25-year-old’s production rose to 19 goals and four assists in 43 appearances during the 2025-26 campaign, helping Monaco qualify for the UEFA Conference League.Balogun has not featured for Monaco this season after involvement at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the U.S. Men’s National Team. He made his tournament debut under Mauricio Pochettino, scoring three goals as the Americans reached the Round of 16.Should Balogun return to the Monaco squad this weekend, he could make his season debut against PSG on Friday.
