Misplacing your phone is always a panic-inducing experience. But losing it right as a cashier finishes scanning a massive grocery haul? It can turn into a high-stress nightmare. For UK creator Pav Sidhu (@pavsiidhu), losing her smartphone at the Aldi checkout led to a frantic search, a theft accusation, and eventually, an embarrassing realization. In a viral TikTok video sitting at over 18,000 views, Sidhu alleged a mortifying mix-up that unfolded while she was trying to pay for her groceries. When she found her phone missing at the checkout, she immediately began a desperate attempt to locate it. However, it allegedly led to a chaotic phone call that left an innocent stranger on the receiving end of a wild confrontation. Thankfully, Sidhu eventually left the store with her phone and groceries intact. But as soon as she reached the car, she couldn’t help but admit she’s “never been more embarrassed” in her life. Why? She had allegedly spammed the wrong person with back-to-back calls, accusing them of being a thief. Losing her phone at the Aldi checkout register sparked the chaos Sidhu narrates the ordeal began while she was shopping at an Aldi location in Preston, loading up a full cart totaling £98. When she reached the register to settle the bill via Apple pay, she allegedly realized her phone was nowhere to be found. @pavsiidhu It was very stressful @Aldi UK #storytime #pov #embarrassing ♬ original sound – Pav Sidhu Panicking at the thought of leaving an entire haul unpaid at the till, Sidhu explained her predicament to the cashier. Stepping in to help, the store clerk kindly lent her his own phone so she could dial her number and listen for the ringtone across the sales floor. “Bless him so much, he let me use his phone to call my phone, and then I was like running around the shop trying to find it.” Unfamiliar with the layout of the borrowed device, Sidhu reportedly punched in what she believed was her personal mobile number. She then hit dial repeatedly while sprinting through the aisles. After several unanswered attempts, someone allegedly picked up the call. In a flustered panic, Sidhu immediately demanded to know if the person on the line was inside the supermarket holding her lost device. Sidhu accused the stranger on the line of theft across the Aldi aisles The bewildered man on the other end reportedly responded saying, “I’m sorry, love, you’ve got the wrong number.” But Sidhu refused to believe him. Convinced she was dealing with an opportunistic thief trying to cover his tracks, she allegedly snapped back into the receiver: “You’re a liar! You’ve got my phone and you’re a thief!” But just as the phone confrontation reached a boiling point, the store clerk reportedly called Sidhu back to the front desk with good news. Apparently, an honest customer had already found her phone and turned it in safely to customer service. Immediately looking down at the borrowed phone, Sidhu realized her frantic mistake. In her haste, Sidhu had reportedly mistyped a single digit of her own number. This means she had spent ten minutes repeatedly dialing and harassing a completely uninvolved stranger going about his day. For her, mistyping a single digit transformed a simple misplaced phone into an aggressive interrogation of an innocent bystander. Sidhu issued a public apology to the mystery caller Relieved to have her groceries and phone secured, Sidhu thanked the store team and the honest customer who turned the device in. However, she also offered a remorseful shout-out to the man on the phone. “Just realized I should probably apologize to the man who answered the phone whose number I was ringing like six times… The poor guy could’ve been at work, could’ve been anywhere,” Sidhu admitted with a laugh. At the end of the day, retail mishaps happen to the best of us. But double-checking your keypad before accusing someone of grand theft is always a good rule of thumb. Take it as a lesson that if you ever lose your phone, make sure you know your own number before launching a cross-store investigation.
