Walt Disney World Resort has demolished the former Ichabod’s Landing gift shop near the Haunted Mansion attraction at Magic Kingdom Park. This is just the latest step in the ongoing reconfiguration of the area around the Liberty Square attraction as Disney constructs the new Cars (2006)-themed Piston Peak National Park addition to Frontierland.Piston Peak National Park, Coming Soon to FrontierlandCredit: DisneyAt D23 Expo 2024, Walt Disney Imagineering announced plans to bring a Cars-themed area to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom Park. The new mini-land, called Piston Peak National Park, will feature two attractions and a landscape inspired by breathtaking national parks across the United States.In 2025, the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and Liberty Square Riverboat permanently closed to make way for Piston Peak National Park. Behind construction walls, crews drained the former waterway and bulldozed the area.Just weeks ago, at D23 Expo 2026, Walt Disney Imagineers revealed the names for the two attractions coming to Piston Peak National Park: Cars Ridge Run Rally and Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along.Haunted Mansion Building Demolished at Magic Kingdom ParkCredit: Rick Lye, Inside the MagicOn September 3, WDWNT reported that crews had demolished the former Ichabod’s Landing gift shop, which was formerly right next to the entrance gates to the Haunted Mansion attraction at the Magic Kingdom. Previously, Walt Disney World Resort demolished the nearby Mike Fink Keel Boats landing, which had been used for the defunct Liberty Square Riverboat ride that sailed on the former Rivers of America.Just one building to the right of the former Mike Fink Keel Boats landing and Ichabod’s Landing gift shop remains standing. Over the last few months, Walt Disney World Resort actually added some new framework to that building, extending it. Presumably, it will remain in place when Piston Peak National Park opens.The Ichabod’s Landing gift shop was formerly the Keelboat Shop. However, the merchandise location eventually closed due to the increasingly long line for the Haunted Mansion attraction, making the space too crowded to continue operations.
