Produced to lead inside the final furlong, he just needed to be kept up to his work from there to cause a bit of an upset at 16-1, ultimately winning by two lengths.That form already looks a good bit better than it did at the time, with the runner-up, Dover Street (Persian Force), then making a quick reappearance at Sandown the following weekend when occupying the same position in the G3 Solario Stakes. With a revised master rating of 102p, Benjamin Hornigold himself looks every inch a Pattern performer in the making for his sire, who currently trails only Persian Force (18) among the leading first-season stallions in Europe, with 15 individual winners on the board.Certainly, few from the first crop of Blackbeard have created as deep an impression as this colt, who is stoutly bred on the distaff side of his pedigree and was by no means a standout on the two occasions that he was offered at public auction. In doing so, the son of Camelot also provided trainer Aidan O'Brien with a remarkable 12th success from the last 13 editions of that 1m maiden, with the subsequent top-level scorers Saxon Warrior, Mogul and Hawk Mountain featuring among the notable names on the roll of honour.Sent off the 4-6 favourite in a field of 13, Darkness Falls ended up winning by a far wider margin than any of his stable's previous winners of this race, forging clear from two furlongs out to land the spoils by seven lengths. Clearly, he had derived plenty from his debut experience at Leopardstown the previous month when he was third behind the subsequent G2 Futurity Stakes placegetter Green Dreamer (Churchill) and fellow next-time-out winner Shakespeare (Dubawi).Both Darkness Falls and Shakespeare are in the mix to represent Ballydoyle in the G1 Golden Fleece Stakes at the Irish Champions Festival, with this colt certainly appealing as the type to hold his own in better company. Admittedly, it probably wasn't the strongest maiden in the world, but that shouldn't be held against this daughter of Sioux Nation as she proved herself in a totally different league to her 14 rivals, leading on the bridle over two furlongs out and then quickening clear to win by eight and a half lengths.The timefigure underlined that this display from Timeless Tale was every bit as good as it looked, to the extent that she's surely ready to test the waters in Pattern company sooner rather than later. A half-sister to the G3 Premio Regina Elena (Italian 1,000 Guineas) winner Wakanaka (Power), who was also placed in consecutive editions of the GI Just a Game Stakes, she looks a hugely exciting filly for the Willie McCreery yard to go to war with.
