Shivakumar said around 50,000 tribal families across 11 districts are dependent on the welfare and nutritional support provided by the government. In a letter to the Chief Secretary, he pointed out that the nutrition kits are an important component of welfare measures intended to support the health and nutritional needs of vulnerable communities, particularly women, children and the elderly.“However, the non-disbursal of nutrition kits for the past five to six months has caused considerable hardship to the beneficiaries. This is particularly concerning as many families live in remote forest and hilly regions, where access to regular sources of nutritious food, healthcare and other essential services is already limited. The prevailing drought has further worsened their livelihoods, as they can no longer depend on minor forest produce,” he said.Published - September 03, 2026 11:46 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
