With every passing day, Frontierland is shrinking at Magic Kingdom Park. As Walt Disney World Resort continues to construct the Cars (2009)-themed Piston Peak National Park in the former site of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island, construction walls are blocking much of the Wild West-inspired land at the original Central Florida Disney park.Piston Peak National Park Coming Soon to the Magic KingdomCredit: DisneyAt D23 Expo 2024, Walt Disney World Resort announced two new additions to Magic Kingdom Park: a Disney Villains land “beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad” and Piston Peak National Park in Frontierland. The latter necessitated the 2025 closure of the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat.Inspired by the natural landscapes of national parks across the United States and the Cars universe, Piston Peak National Park will feature two new attractions: a road race and a family-friendly ride. At D23 Expo 2026, Walt Disney Imagineering announced the names of the attractions: Cars Ridge Run Rally and Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along. The latter will introduce a new character: Ranger J. Half of the wooden walkway has been blocked off since early July, but construction walls now block the entire path.These construction walls run along the former Rivers of America from Liberty Square to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad on the other side of Frontierland. They feature signs with logos and slogans for various nearby attractions, such as “This Here’s The Wildest Ride In The Wilderness!”Credit: Jeremy Thompson, FlickrDespite the current state of the Frontierland boardwalk, the walkway is expected to be incorporated into Piston Peak National Park when the new area opens at the Magic Kingdom.
