Richarlison has been told he may have been naive with his conduct as he remains at Tottenham after the transfer window shut. The Brazilian has been linked with leaving Spurs on numerous occasions since a £60million move from Everton in 2022.Richarlison started the 3-0 loss to Brentford and hasn’t been used since this seasonGettyBeset by injury issues at various points, he has been unable to show his best form across four seasons. He did, however, provide 11 important Premier League goals last term with Tottenham only just surviving the threat of relegation on the final day.Richarlison also played a vital role in their Europa League triumph over Manchester United in 2025.This summer he finally looked set to return to Goodison Park in a deal which could have seen Iliman Ndiaye join Tottenham. This, though, fell through with the player releasing a strong statement on social media having seen Roberto De Zerbi talk about his future after Spurs’ loss to Newcastle. He wrote: “After everything I’ve been through in recent years, I decided that they would never again decide my future for me.“I’ve been through a lot of bad things these days and almost all of them happened because of decisions made by other people.“Pressure, threats, retaliations, none of this scares me. I’ve been through worse things… believe me!“I have always made it clear, at every opportunity, that an exit of mine to another place would also have to be good for the club.“If it wasn’t, I would never accept… as I didn’t accept when everything here was falling apart and they needed me.Richarlison played the majority of pre-season but now finds himself out in the coldGetty“I stayed and gave my life. So, I hope you treat my situation with the same respect that I always had for Spurs and for all the people who worked with me during this period. Just don’t want to decide for me.“If they enter into an agreement between Spurs and Everton, I go back to my favourite team.“My intention was to return to the place where I was very happy. But the negotiations were the way people wanted and it won’t be like this anymore.“Despite this riot, I have a contract with Spurs and I will be at the club’s disposal.”Former Tottenham defender Sebastien Bassong, though, believes Richarlison may now have made a rod for his own back with his comments. He told the Sports Breakfast: “Roberto De Zerbi is someone that’s kind of vulnerable. He talks a lot. What you see is what you get. So when he’s with you, he’s with you. When you come out and you say you want to leave, you better leave. So he wants committed players.“I think Richarlison’s been a little bit… He’s been inexperienced the way he came out, because I don’t think he was sure that he was going to be able to leave.“Look at that now. I think he’s going to be really far down the pecking order.“But then, once again, that gives him a challenge to prove people wrong and to come back.“Maybe that’s what he needed. But at the moment, I don’t see him being so performing. And it’s not going to happen anytime soon.”Richarlison, who now has new signing Omar Marmoush and Dominic Solanke ahead of him in the pecking order, could still leave Tottenham.Clubs from Turkey, Netherlands, Portugal, and Saudi Arabia all have extra time to get transfers done and potentially land players like the Brazilian forward.
