Joao Moreira, a multiple champion jockey in Singapore and Hong Kong, will fly into Toronto to partner with Wathnan Racing's Archivist (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) in next weekend's GI Woodbine Mile, the Qatar-based operation said in a release Friday.The Brazilian a four-time leading rider in Singapore, shifted his tack to Hong Kong in 2013 and in his second year, amassed what was then a record 145 riding victories in a season. He smashed his own mark by recording 168 wins during the 2015/2016 season in Hong Kong and bettered that with 170 winners the following campaign. He recorded a fourth Hong Kong premiership in 2020/2021 and since leaving Hong Kong, has notched top-level races in Japan, Australia and in his native Brazil.Trained by Hamad Al-Jehani, the progressive Archivist was victorious in a one-mile turf handicap during the Dubai World Cup Carnival this past March and two starts later took out the Golden Mile during the Qatar Goodwood Festival. He achieved a career-best in his most recent trip to the races, streaking away to win the G3 Strensall Stakes by 7 1/2 lengths at York on Aug. 22.Moreira replaces James Doyle, who is unable to do the weight, according to the Wathnan release.
