Yeah, I'm on ssi and I'm so confused by that. We're not allowed to have more than $2000 at once unless you have an ABLE account (which you have to pay an absurd amount of money to maintain; also the $2000 limit was determined almost 40 years ago and has not been raised with inflation once), and while he may have received the lump sum of back pay that still doesn't seem like enough unless he's just living on the streets on Guatemala and isn't doing anything all day (in which case he might be able to panhandle?) I actually wonder if this is just a guy who's grifting and doesn't know how social security works because it doesn't really make sense. And then of course we have to have people replying that people on social security shouldn't be on vacation at all. Like okay man sure if you're disabled you should just fuck off to the netherworld I guess and never enjoy anything. If you enjoy things that means you can work!
