A Tennessee hotel stay took an unsettling turn for a woman traveling alone for work after she reported repeated knocking at her room door. The situation became more concerning the next day, she said, when Best Western staff reviewed security footage and told her that another man had remained outside her former room for nearly three hours. TikTok creator Gracie (@graciejohnson) described the experience in a Sept. 1, 2026, post that has received nearly 400,000 views as of publication. She said she traveled to Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, for a property inspection and stayed at a Best Western in the south-central Tennessee city. According to Gracie’s account, she returned to the hotel after picking up dinner and noticed a large group of construction workers. She estimated that several dozen workers were staying there and said many wore construction vests. She says men rushed to get in the elevator with her. After noticing the men, Gracie said she headed toward the elevator, and four or five men rushed to enter behind her. A third man remained on the elevator. About 10 minutes after Gracie entered her room, she said someone knocked on her door. She looked through the peephole and saw the two men from the neighboring room. Gracie said she did not answer. After the knocking stopped, she thought the situation had ended. Later, she said, the knocking began again. One of the men stood outside her door while Gracie also heard knocking through the shared wall. She said the men called out, “Hey, you in there? We know you’re in there. Come out.” After contacting the front desk, she said an employee told her not to move and came to her room. The employee offered to move Gracie to another room, and Gracie accepted. Staff moved her to the first floor. Gracie received disturbing news the next afternoon. The next afternoon, Gracie said the same front desk employee stopped her when she returned from her property inspection. The employee told her hotel staff had reviewed security footage from the previous night. According to Gracie, the footage showed a different man returning to her original room after she had moved.“A man came back, stood outside my door, pacing, looking in the peephole, knocking,” she said, as if “trying to get me to open up for nearly three hours,” she said. “He had a large object in his pockets,” she alleged. Gracie said the employee showed her a zoomed-in screenshot of the man’s face so she could recognize him during the rest of her stay. She said the man was not one of the two men who had knocked on her door. “This was man number three,” she said. Gracie said the footage also revealed that the third man had seen her arrive at the hotel and had waited outside while she went to get food. She said he then followed her back into the hotel and joined the group that entered the elevator. “So I’m assuming there was some kind of communication telling him what room I was staying in,” Gracie said. Gracie said hotel staff offered to move her to another location and said they planned to take additional steps to keep her safe. She initially decided to remain at the hotel and work remotely. Later, she said, she went out to get dinner and saw the same men in the parking lot. She then checked out and returned to Nashville. Before she left, Gracie said the front desk employee confirmed the men were linemen staying at the hotel for work. She said the hotel employee told the company what had happened. According to Gracie, the man identified in the security footage was subsequently terminated. Despite leaving the hotel early, Gracie said she gave the staff a positive review because of how the employees responded to her concerns. “These ladies did such an amazing job of being kind and accommodating and doing everything in their power to make sure that I was safe,” she said. Gracie said hotel staff told her they might file a police report, but she did not provide additional details about any law enforcement action in the video.
