While many pundits and Liverpool fans fear that the Reds’ summer transfer window was a largely disappointing one, there’s apparently a rather different perception from inside the club.Richard Hughes did manage to oversee a few astute additions to Andoni Iraola’s squad in Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz, Ronald Araujo and – most notably – the £106m capture of Bradley Barcola earlier this week.However, there remains a widespread feeling that the Anfield hierarchy didn’t do enough to rectify problematic positions such as right-back and defensive midfield, whilst also failing to recruit a natural right-sided winger to take Mo Salah’s place.Liverpool chiefs are happy with summer transfer windowIn an article for The Athletic reflecting upon the summer transfer window at Liverpool, James Pearce wrote of a ‘disconnect’ between how it’s regarded internally and how it’s been perceived by the fan base.The journalist wrote that senior club figures ‘point to how their primary objective was achieved’ in adding ‘pace and penetration in wide areas’ with the captures of Munoz and Barcola, with the latter seen as ‘one of the world’s outstanding wingers’.Anfield chiefs ‘believe they have what they need’ in the squad and have ‘confidence’ that Iraola will improve the players available to him, whilst there’s an ‘acceptance’ that patience will be needed as the Reds seek to leave a woeful 2025/26 season behind them.(Photo by Jan Kruger/Getty Images)Want more Empire of the Kop coverage? Jacquet and Munoz have both made vital contributions already, while Araujo has looked solid throughout the time that he’s been on the pitch.Also, the signing of Barcola should hopefully give the Reds the marquee, top-shelf attacker that they were seeking after Salah left.The grumbles among supporters and pundits like Jamie Carragher relate mostly to how, despite having the biggest net spend of any Premier League club this summer, Hughes failed to address positions which had red flags attached to them since the start of the summer, particularly at the base of midfield.Liverpool are still far too easy to play through in the middle of the park, as evidenced in the games against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. Iraola seemingly feels that the issue could be remedied by changes to the team’s structure out of possession, but that’d be a longer-term shift rather than a quick fix.Fans may also be concerned at a lack of depth in some parts of the squad – for example, if Alexander Isak were to get injured before Hugo Ekitike returns (projected to be at the turn of the year), the Reds don’t have a natural senior centre-forward to step in.We hope that the sense of satisfaction among Anfield chiefs will ultimately be justified, but for now, supporters have every right to believe that the summer transfer window hasn’t been an overly successful one.The post How Liverpool chiefs feel about Reds’ summer transfer window amid outcry from fans and pundits appeared first on The Empire of The Kop.
