I actually don’t see this one as choosy begging. For a few reasons. The point of buy nothing is avoiding consumerism, building community and sourcing from within the community. This person shared what they’re searching for and specified they can pick up over the weekend (this is common to specify in BN posts- people cannot always pick up and are sometimes asking for drop off when possible). This person is following the spirit of BN - their post could be more personable or community oriented, and it could reduce waste further if they were open to a few more gently used things but 🤷🏻‍♀️ she’s at least starting from a place of trying within the community first. Second, have yall seen what our communities often “donate”? A lot of it is literal trash that they couldn’t sell, wasn’t good enough for them to keep using so they “gifted” it to “people in need”, but really it’s just giving trash to others. Sure, plenty of things could still have life to them but no, no one needs your thread bare leggings simply because they might work under a dress or as pajamas. Hell, half the time it’s clear people aren’t even washing clothes before donating. I don’t blame her for not wanting a poop or vomit stained changing mat or specifying that in this case because I do think that’s what people would offer. BN isn’t about “begging when you don’t have money”. Is she likely to get everything? No, but why is she TAH just for asking specifically within a group designed for this?
