The government has issued a statement following Yorgen Fenech’s acquittal in connection with the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, stressing that ongoing judicial and investigative processes must not be prejudiced.The statement comes after the Criminal Court, presided over by Madam Justice Edwina Grima, delivered its judgment following the jury’s verdict.The government highlighted the court’s decision to send a copy of testimony heard during the trial to two ongoing magisterial inquiries.The same testimony is also set to be sent to the Commissioner of Police to determine whether any third parties could potentially face criminal proceedings.In light of these developments, the government once again called for “prudence and caution”, noting that a specific legal time limit connected to the criminal proceedings is still running.“Nothing should be said or done that could prejudice ongoing judicial or investigative processes,” the government said.It also pledged to continue providing the necessary resources for Malta’s institutions to carry out their work “fully and effectively”.The government concluded by reaffirming its commitment to ensuring justice is administered by the country’s institutions with full respect for the rule of law.•
