Malta’s ferry services will begin operating later into the evening, with additional trips being introduced across several routes under a newly announced schedule.The extended hours will apply to the harbour ferries connecting Sliema and Cospicua with Valletta, as well as fast ferry services linking Valletta, Sliema and Buġibba with Mġarr, Gozo.Three additional trips will be added to each harbour ferry service, while two additional trips will be introduced on the fast ferry services departing from Valletta and from Sliema and Buġibba.The fast ferry timetable will now see services running well past midnight, with additional late-night journeys including departures at 10:45pm, 11:45pm and 12:45am.The latest 12:45am fast ferry departure, arriving at 1:30am, will operate on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until 31st October, according to the new summer schedule.That means passengers using the fast ferry will be able to travel as late as 1:30am on selected days.The new schedule will remain in place until 31st October, when the summer timetable ends. The government said the upcoming winter schedule will also include additional journeys.Sustainable Mobility Minister Chris Bonett said demand for ferry travel has continued to grow, revealing that around 250,000 passengers used the Sliema-Buġibba-Gozo route during its first three months after launching in May.The government is also working towards a new ferry connection between Marsaskala and Valletta, which is expected to begin once infrastructure works on the Marsaskala quay and ferry terminal are completed.The extended ferry hours form part of the government’s Malta in Motion transport plan, aimed at providing more alternatives to private car use.Would later ferry services make you more likely to leave your car at home?•
