Avengers: Doomsday (2026) is just months away from hitting theaters, but Marvel Studios apparently isn’t finished with its next massive crossover. The movie has already completed principal photography and reportedly undergone additional filming. Yet cameras have apparently continued rolling as Marvel prepares for the December 18 release.Normally, another round of reshoots this close to release might raise questions. This time, however, the reported explanation could be much more exciting for Marvel fans.According to a new insider report, Marvel isn’t simply fixing scenes. The studio is reportedly using additional photography to pack more surprise cameos into Avengers: Doomsday (2026).And considering how many major Marvel characters remain absent from the confirmed cast, there are some enormous possibilities.Marvel Already Has a Massive Cast for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’Marvel doesn’t exactly need more characters to make Avengers: Doomsday (2026) feel enormous.Joe and Anthony Russo are returning to direct after previously leading Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). This time, the MCU will collide with several different corners of Marvel history.Robert Downey Jr. will make his highly anticipated MCU return, but he won’t play Tony Stark. Instead, the former Iron Man actor will portray Victor von Doom.Credit: Marvel ComicsSome of the biggest confirmed names include:Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.)Thor (Chris Hemsworth)Steve Rogers (Chris Evans)Captain America/Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie)Loki (Tom Hiddleston)Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan)Shang-Chi (Simu Liu)Shuri (Letitia Wright)Ant-Man (Paul Rudd)Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh)Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal)Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby)Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn)Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach)Charles Xavier/Professor X (Patrick Stewart)Magneto (Ian McKellen)Cyclops (James Marsden)Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming)Mystique (Rebecca Romijn)Gambit (Channing Tatum)That’s already enough star power for one of Marvel’s largest movies ever. Apparently, Marvel still sees room for more.Credit: Marvel StudiosReport Claims Marvel Is Adding ‘A Lot of Cameos’Industry insider Daniel Richtman recently reported that Marvel Studios is “still doing reshoots” for Avengers: Doomsday (2026).Richtman also reported that production on Avengers: Secret Wars (2027), the direct follow-up, isn’t expected to begin until “the end of September.”Then came the more interesting part.In a follow-up report, Richtman claimed Marvel is “adding a lot of cameos” to Avengers: Doomsday (2026) during its latest additional photography.Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed that report, meaning fans should treat the specific cameo claims as rumors for now.Still, the report would explain why Marvel continues filming so close to release. The Russos could be expanding the movie’s already enormous collection of heroes and villains.Marvel could add MCU heroes who weren’t included in the original cast announcement. But with the Multiverse playing such a major role, characters from older Marvel franchises could also enter the picture.Credit: Marvel StudiosThe Reshoots Could Be Setting Up ‘Secret Wars,’ TooCameos may not be the only reason Marvel wants another crack at certain scenes.Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) is expected to begin filming soon, allowing Marvel to make adjustments to Doomsday as it prepares its sequel. When Doomsday wrapped principal photography, Marvel was still developing its larger two-film Avengers story. Additional photography now allows the studio to strengthen connections between Doomsday and Secret Wars as it prepares for the next movie. That could mean changing dialogue, adding characters earlier, or planting story elements that become important later.Reshoots themselves aren’t unusual for an MCU blockbuster, either. A production this large also creates scheduling challenges. But if Marvel really is adding cameos, several missing characters immediately jump out.Credit: Marvel StudiosHawkeye, Hulk, and Scarlet Witch Could Be Waiting in the WingsJeremy Renner may be one of the most interesting possibilities.Renner recently fueled speculation by posting a video of his Hawkeye costume set to music associated with the character. That doesn’t confirm anything, but the timing caught fans’ attention.Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk is another major omission.Bruce Banner helped form the original Avengers and survived Avengers: Endgame (2019), making his absence from such a massive crossover noticeable. Then there’s Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch.Wanda Maximoff seemingly died at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), but Marvel has left enough uncertainty around her fate to keep return theories alive. And those are only the MCU possibilities.Credit: Marvel StudiosMarvel Could Have Even Bigger Multiverse SurprisesIf Marvel truly wants to shock audiences, the Multiverse opens some wild doors.Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine immediately come to mind after Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Neither character appeared in Marvel’s original Doomsday cast presentation. Then there’s perhaps the strongest possibility of all: Tobey Maguire.Maguire’s Spider-Man returned in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), proving Marvel and Sony were willing to bring one of superhero cinema’s most recognizable characters into the MCU’s Multiverse story.None of these appearances has been confirmed, and Marvel could have completely different surprises planned.‘Avengers: Doomsday’ May Be Even Bigger Than Marvel Initially RevealedMarvel already revealed an enormous lineup for Avengers: Doomsday (2026), yet the studio may have intentionally kept some of its biggest cards hidden. If Richtman’s report proves accurate, these latest reshoots aren’t merely routine cleanup. Marvel is reportedly expanding the movie with “a lot of cameos” only months before release.Whether that means Hawkeye, Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Deadpool, Wolverine, Spider-Man, or characters nobody expects remains to be seen. For now, Marvel isn’t giving those secrets away. And with Avengers: Doomsday (2026) approaching its December 18 release, keeping a few enormous surprises hidden might be exactly the point. The post Report: Marvel Extends ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Reshoots to Pack In Huge Secret Cameos appeared first on Inside the Magic.
